Galeria Joan Gaspar is pleased to invite you to the exhibition "Moisès Villèlia: The balance of forms". This long awaited exhibition that had been forging for a long time would not have been possible without the inestimable collaboration of the artist's son, Nahum Villèlia.
Moisès Villèlia (Barcelona, 1928-1994) is a sculptor with poetic language, recognizable at very first sight. Through out several stages of his artistic creation, and early on in his artistic carrer, Villèlia discovered a material that turned out to be essential for his work: the bamboo cane. This peculiar and airy material will reign in the gallery during the next few months. The mobile and static sculptures with their beautifully fragile and abstract forms, set all together in one space, form a dreamy small garden, the kind that the artist admired so much.
As you probably know, Moisès Villèlia was not only a sculptor, but also a poet. We invite you to read one of his poems dedicated to his favorite material:
The canes are cut every year.
Their true life, the interior.
The evolution of its tubercular root.
I, in all of this, do not alter anything.
Neither the canes nor the landscape.
I am like a strange apprenticed barber
That is intriguied by the emptiness
Of these GREEN_HAIRS.
What remains of my manipulation
Are simply drawings.
How all ideas are.
I have no need to explain my actions.
Only to say:
“Sculptors” do not mess with me.
