RAMIRO SUBIRÁ (Olazaguita, Navarra, 1944)
An autodidact painter. For the first time he exhibited in 1991, when he has already been an artist with many years of experience. Since that moment he exhibited in many national and foreign art galleries. In his work abstraction fuses with figuration harmonically, giving an especial importance to the colours.
According to Francesc Miralles: “In his oils there are no outlines, no drawing on top of or underneath the colour: the forms, the composition, are created by the way in which the oil is applied. Here we again find the artist linked to the profound, glorious past of painting. Here we leave behind the quick, violent strokes of a large part of the painting of our century and return to the meticulously planned, reworked compositions of the old masters. It is through a profound expressiveness in the use colour that we are submerged in a complex world of dramatic forms and spiritual tensions”.
